Looking at other Dragon and Damsel patterns I found them either too vague or too complex to tie. So the following pattern is a little more like the actual bug but not too complex to tie The Glass Bead Eye Marabou Damsel Dragon
Hook:#6 and 8 streamer or long shank nymph Eyes; Green , brown or black glass beads on Classical Guitar String Tail: Marabou tips Body: Wrapped Marabou Fibers Rib: Gold craft wire Thorax: same as body Over thorax: Olive Dun or brown midge flex Thread: 6/0 Olive Dun or brown
Step 1.Prepare a set of glass bead head dumbbells in the colour you wish. In this case green as the handful of materials I am using here are in Olive Dun Step 2.Tie in at hook eye. I have been tying a lot of eye weight on the underside of the hook. I have found this limits 'flipping over' to a certain degree. Step 3.Tie in a tail with the tips of your Olive Dun Marabou do not cut off excess. I find wetting the marabou tames it. Step 4.Tie in the gold rib Step 5.Wrap the marabou forward to the 2/3rd's point Step 6.Bring the rib forward Step 7.Tie in the midge flex flat on the top of the hook Step 8.Tie in, at the tips, more marabou Steps 9 & 10Wrap the marabou forward and tie off at the hook eye (past the glass eyes) Then pull the midge flex over the thorax and eyes and tie off. Depending on the amount of marabou you can adjust the bulkiness of the flies profile. This can make a big difference when doing damsels vs dragon nymphs. Either way take a piece of 'hook side' Velcro and rough up the body as it may be a little too smooth after the wetting and the wrapping.

Very nice... What size of glass beads do you use? (Do they even come in different sizes?)

The outside diameter is 1/8" and they do come in different sizes.

Great fly! I love dragonfly and damselfly nymphs. Dunno what they're like for fishing but I think they're really neat critters.

This fly was one that 'looked nice in the vise' last winter but proven to be a solid stillwater trout producer.
Dragon/Damsel nymphs are trout food for sure.

And you string the beads together on some mono with melted ends? What pound test? (It seems to me you've probably gone over that one in an earlier thread...)

Ya that is strung on a G string instructions found HereIf one doesn't want to use Guitar strings you can use fishing mono but start at 20lb test. If you have a broom with plastic bristles you can use those and black ones give a nice pupil as well.

Great fly can't wait to tie it. I'll use mono for the eyes though I'd hate to get glue on My G- String hahahaha. Thanks for sharing.
