Here is an easy modification to any of your popular nymph patterns. I do not know where or when I first learn this and I am not sure if I am doing it the same way I originally picked this up but here it is; The Double Back Wing case. I will apply this to a Gold ribbed Hares Ear Nymph (GRHE) 1. Start off by preparing the desired feather for a wing case. The preparation is really just putting some head cement or clear nail polish on a section of wing, letting it dry and cutting an appropriate sized section out. 2. Hook in vise wind on thread 3. Some tail material and the ribbing 4. Dub the body as you would normally and bring rib forward 5. Tie in the hackle feather for legs 6. Dub the thorax 7. Palmer the hackle forward 8. Tie in your prepared wing case material at the ½ way fold over and tie down 9. hold up wing case and snip Here are some finished in a few colours you can cut the wing case straight or create a “V” shape. Have you ever hesitated tying big stonefly patterns because of the multi-steps involved with the wing case? Well 2 doublebacks will make that easier
