Hey, anyone ever buy or know someone who bought a dog through Win-toba Kennels? What do you know?
I'm considering it right now - they're pretty much the only Field lab breeder in MB.
FYI - Field labs are the more athletic type, i.e. working breed vs show which is stockier.

Labs are my number 1 pick. Remember when our short hunting season is over you still have to live with the dog. I think they are the best all around breed for hunting and as a pet. Very easy to train. I picked up my dog in May at 6 weekes old and started to work with him right away. He was ready to hunt in fall when the season opened up. I field trialed him for 2 seasons with NHRA which really helped to sharpen up the dog and the trainer. Win-toba Kennels has been around a long time and I think they are a reputable outfit. The best test is to go down and let them show you their dogs. They have a nice hunting /trialling set up there and get them to run some of their dogs for you. I like the old style Labs better than the speed dogs they breed now. Speed is good for show at the trials but in the field you have to be able to keep up to them. I ran mine mostly on Upland birds. Oh by the way "Chocolates" rule. ;D

Jon - great to see ya here ... but ...... you won''t have any time to train that mutt shortly ..... Anyhow, Win-Toba has produced some Field Trial Champs (including a Master) in the past .... I can't recall the breeder we had our lab from, but I do recall it was field trial national championship blood line. I'll dig it up and bring it over. John .... I was in agreement on the lab's being best ... but after having the golden for the past year and a bit .... I just dunno ............ I'll let you know how he is in the field shortly ............. I'll give the golden one thing, he's not the thick-headed dolt like the labs before him. another upland bird guy .... sheesh I will agree whole heartedly on age and training. We got the older golden at 15 weeks .... to Wolters' book Water Dog, late by 8 weeks. But he took to the training ok. ..... we now have #2 golden, got her at 6 weeks, and her training has advanced father than the older ones in a similar time frame. When that switch flips to directed training - it is a deffinate difference ..... darrell,
