Look in the "Other Cottage Related Hobbies of Mine" thread. There is a question on this topic there. (I maybe should have started a new thread for it but it didn't cross my mind at the time.)

Dale - digital cameras are developing at an astounding rate - basically same stage as PC's were 10 yrs ago. Hence part 2 of why I don't have one (part one - no PC at home). However, that said - there are many good digital cameras around - for a low price - that take great pics. Stay above 3.5 mega pixels - after that - highers costs equate to more bells and whistles. and that ends my 2-bits on digital cameras

Hey Darrell,
Are you thinking they aren't even close to bottoming out in price yet?

Nope - they've still a long way to come (my thoughts). Digital is still a new kid on the block (so-to-speak) and will will take a bit to be common place (getting there) - which in turn will drop prices. Same as PC's did - in '93 I picked up a 486 dressed up for $3500 + txs. One yr later that same PC was down to $1800 incl. txs. Now .... kids ask "what's a 486 dad " Its technology - high priced when new - then drops like a sine curve. When do you want to jump in

I have a digital camera and it works great for fishing and such. But it is also nice to still have the film camera so you can go get a roll of film developed easier. You can do this with a digital but I am not sure how much it costs. The prices range anywehre from $60 and up on digital cameras. But once you get one you will love it.

well - the Big Guy came early and dropped off a solution to my problem #2 (see above) ...... wish he woud have donea combo - but I'll take this.
Spent a lot of time this year with digital cameras - reading the basics and a bit more. Prices this year I thought were stupid (to say the least). That explosion of technology danced the prices most of the time I was watching. But, in short ended up with :
Kodak Z740 with dock 3 printer. 10X optical (38-380mm) and 5X digital zoom (38-1900mm - makes a loonie fill the screen at about 15 ft.). Aperture from F/2.8 - 8.0. ISO for 80-200 (some auto settings go higher). Nice sized view screen. Decent video capability too. Dropped in a high-speed 512MB card - does make a difference from internal memory - and even lower sized cards. So far - so good. Went through 3 sets batteries so far (re-charge NiMH) playing about. Lots of pics take - lots of pics deleted. Pics print out great - depending on camera settings - but most turn out clearer than 35mm film prints. Found on this one - the 3.1MP setting on a 4x6 print meets the same resolution as a 35mm pic. On the 512MB card - that'd be more than enough pics (around 650 or so).
Yeah - there's other cameras - better lenses and electronic processors out there. But for starters ..... this one is looking promising.
now .... just add that 1.4X lens ... ooohh-wwweeeee
time to play .......

Eeeeewwww... Nikon! Just kidding... I have always been a Canon diehard and will always be. Reviews on the D50 looks really good... they have been talking about it quite a bit on the photography forums I frequent.
James.
