Hey,
I was out on the weekend for Lake Trout on Athapap and was posed with a situation that I would like to get others opinions on. When I arrived at the spot I wanted to fish there was another boat in the vicinity, ( around 200 yards away), I didn't feel like I was incringing (sp?) on his fishing zone as we were both anchored in 90+ feet of water.
After about 20 minutes another boat showed up and anchored around 50 ft from us, I didn't say anything because in the next 20 minutes we caught around 6 trout and they had yet to get a bite. They hauled anchor and drove around in circles for a little while before dropping anchor 50 ft on the other side of us. No soone did they anchor when another boat showed up whom knew the others anchored off our stern.
When they anchored were the other boat was comments were made how there were no fish in that spot, that we were cathing them all, during their exchange we happened to get a double header and landed 2 more trout. Before I knew it, one boat was 30 feet off our right side and the other one not much further off a little ahead of them. Now I was getting PI$$ED off, and so were the people I was guiding.
Just when I thought they couldn't get more ignorant, the wind started to blow and I dragged anchor a bit, when I was in the process of getting re-set up, they both moved up wind from me and drifted almost right on top of me by the time their anchors were set, forcing me to move or have their boats hit mine when I swung on my anchor rope.
Finally I pulled anchor and left, wishing them luck and informing them that if they really wanted my fishing spot all they had to do was ask and I would have moved, they didn't have to park on top of me.
So in your opinions, how close is to close and what is proper ettiquete when someone pulls this sort of stunt.
PS.
If the person or persons that did this read this message, pay closer attention to the repsonses when you think of doing it again to someone.
Chris
