On Sunday the wife and I took a drive up to Hecla Island and Grindstone Point.. I noticed that there was a few inches of water along the edge of Gull Pond just north of Gimli. Drat, I hadn't taken my rod with me!! (ok, just a little desparate). The ponds along the Grindstone Point road were all iced over still and I would expect at least a week of decent weather would be needed to clear them. I don't know if these would winterkill or not.
There was some major fishing success for the gulls and a bald eagle at the intersection of the highway and the road into Hecla village. It seems that someone's haul of fish remains had spilled out onto the road and the birds were feasting. I had seen the eagle carry off a fish and I was wondering at first where there was any water to hunt in.
