Earlier (maybe on the old format) there was some talk about the berry ponds along the Trans-Canada. On the way to the Whiteshell I have noted some bright yellow signs marking some of them. I guess this will make them easier to find. That and the Hadashville, Reynolds ponds. As the ponds thaw before the lakes they may become valuable to us in April.

Hey I had quite the obsession with these ponds in spring. I have a thing for pond trout, because they tend to have remarkable growth rates, and the berry ponds had been stocked since before 1996, so I figured that some of these fish would be well into a trophy class. I hunted down all four of the ponds. I believe Saskatoon is the pond closest to Falcon, and we did not even bother fishing in it, because it is a.k.a. goose poop pond, and I would feel more optimistic dropping a line into my septic tank... I think the second closest pond to Falcon is known as Saskatoon, it was the only one that required a short hike, and was probably the most cosmetically promising (size, clarity, etc.) of the bunch, but also had a zero yield. I think Strawberry is the next one, and it was located beside a tower (of some sort), this lake was quite long, but narrow, choked with bullrushes, and depth seemed minimal, also no fish caught. The pond at the NW Angle turnoff is Raspberry Pond (I think) and it was also quite promising for size, but produced nothing. What I found from talking to locals and other informants, these ponds, for the most part, are stocked for seasonal angling only, and the fish do not beat the winter. This would explain the poor spring fishing...although my angling techniques are by no means "refined" and these lakes could be full of hogs...I guess the only way to find out is to hit em again...and again
Anyone tried out Hadashville Pond?

The one at the turn for NW angle forest looks like th most likely one of the 4 to winter over fish. It even has water inflowing. I think it would make a good place for a get together, casting clinic or family picnic as there is a ton of room on the south side. rb

True enough, is there the possibility of a get-together of board members? Have you wet a line in any of these ponds?

Since this board has only been up since the beginning of august I'd like to wait till spring maybe before seeing if we have a true community to have a get together. I fished the pond at NW angle but it was very early in the season last year. Got skunked but was just fishing from shore. There was a pair of mergansers in the pond and they weren't there for the scenery The real questio on that pond is "do fish winter over?" I don't think many people fish it so if the can live from year to year they might get quite large! Though last year might have been a real test...there was 4' of ice on lake Winnipeg...
