I got a couple of magazines for Christmas. One of them is called FlyFusion. It's a Canadian publication and I really like the definite "north of 49" flavour to its ads. It's very "trouty" and the only article related to warm water stuff was a good piece on crayfish by Phil Rowley.
I also got the latest In-Fisherman and it was very interesting to see a couple of substantial references to fly-fishing tactics. One article was talking about targeting pike in northern Canada and here's a line from it:
"Big leech imitations presented with a flyrod simply crush giant northerns..."
The article went on to explain how to duplicate this kind of presentation with spinning gear.
Another article about smallmouth bass had the sub-title "Float-and-Fly Tactics and More." It mostly discussed suspending small hair and feather jigs under a bobber. But there were a couple paragraphs devoted to fishing mayfly nymphs under an indicator with a fly rod.

Hi Dale,
Small world!! earlier this year I was looking into the possibility of renting a small retirement house in the little hamlet of Beaver Mines (near where I fish each summer in the Crowsnest Pass area) and it turned out that I was speaking with the wife of the editor of Fly Fusion magazine ... she and her husband had just bought it a month earlier and were planning on renting out the main house while they spent weekends living in their large 5th wheel trailer on the property... and, naturally fishing the area. I believe they live in Okotoks.Very nice people ... the place was quickly rented to someone else because I won't be retiring for several more months.
