So, I was out on the lawn and my casting didn't suck as bad as I thougth I would given it's been more than 10 years since I picked up a fly rod. I even had a huge puddle to pretend fish into. (no bites, just a few snags) My questions are regarding line care. My line has been sitting on the reel in a leather case in the dark for 12 years. Do they last this long? Now it's a little muddy. I was going to wash it in warm soapy water. Do I need to do anything else? Some sort of lube or protectant. It's a floating line. What about the backing? Erika

I don't know about todays line conditioners and a 12yearold line
So the mild soap would be the best bet
though a 12 year old line doesn't owe ya anything

Give it a good stretch before you use it. Tie your leader to a tree, back off a good distance, and give it a good long stretch. I'd be tempted to stretch out the WHOLE line.

If you wash it give it a coating of amorall (sp). I have a old rattie floating line that is very cracked and beat, it does not float anymore. I ws going to throw it out but beeing the cheapscate I am I saved it for lawn casting. I ended up useing it for fishing and it will just float under the surface which workes great on very still water, it does not produce and surface disturbance but does not seem to sink much below a inch or so. Cheers Ron.
