Greetings from just south of the border. I live in Minnesota but I do fly fish in Manitoba whenever possible. John Yure has introduced me to the Parkland lakes and I am fortunate have been able to take many fly-in trips for pike, lakers and arctic grayling. I love fly fishing for most any fish. My next visit to Manitoba begins on Sunday. I enjoy tying flies and have some pretty reliable patterns for lakers and pike. Nothing too original but customized versions of known patterns. This is a great site for fly fishers that love and respect the fish and fly fishing. Thanks very much for a great resource.

Hi there... Whereabouts in Minnesota are your from? Have you every fished the Red Lake River for smallmouths? I've tried it around Crookston and am curious about what it's like around Thief River Falls.

I live in Afton, a small town east of St. Paul on the banks of the St. Croix river. My work gets me up to Crookston and Thief River Falls but I have not fished there. The St. Croix is very good for smallmouth but it can get crowded where I live.
I tend to seek out the smaller rivers and hike-in lakes where I can wade or float tube. Down here, the bass are really starting to respond to frog patterns in the shallows. It is a late summer pattern that is one of those sure signs that Fall is around the corner.
