hi i'm new to fly fishing i started fly fishing last summer by being given a fly rod. I know very little about fly fishing, a friend gave me a few pointers on casting and know I'm hooked. I've pretty much given up most of my other fishing. I've always been addicted to fishing but now i'm addicted to fly fishing even though I don't catch many fish, maybe 6 in total.Fishing for me is no longer how many fish I can catch but how I catch them. My wife gave me a fly tying kit for christmas and I.ve started tying flies. The rod I have has no markings on it and I have no idea what wt it is. The reel is an intrepid rimfly. I need help with gear and fly selections. I'm up for any kind of fish as long as it's by fly. thanks

welcome along ostro someone can help calculate the weight of your rod. Somewhere in here somebody posted a link to doing so ...... once the rod is figgured out - you can figgure out what range of fish you can pursue without worrying about snappin the rod (or making a fish fly). Take a boo through the different posts here - lots of info - or ..... ask away. darrell,

Glad to have you aboard Ostro. Remember that you have to pay homage to the Knights of the Red River ( aka the old farts ) by bringing PIE!!!!!! As you can tell I am responsible for the pie. Ask away.
