Hello all,
I am brand new to the sport of fly fishing. I come from a background of fishing in the Whiteshell Region where my cottage is situated.
Just purchased my first fly rod at "Fishing Hole" this weekend. Ended up with a "6WT Canyon Creek". I have no experience with casting the rod so I decided to head out to Garson Ponds to wet the line. Bad choice of a day to go! Winds were howling and it was really cold. Managed to get a few nice trout on the bobbers tho.
As far as my experience with Trout fishing in general... we head out to George and Forbes Lake (Hike into Forbes) for awesome late fall trout fishing every year. Been using spoons (5 of diamonds) up to this point, but I hope to be using my fly rod at the end of this year.
I also frequent the Dorthy Lake trout pond quite a bit during the summer months. Catching them on bobbers and corn.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I could go to get more info on casting or proper technique? I have managed to get the line out about 25 feet or so but my leader seems to get tangled pretty often. This is obviously a beginner problem but any helpful advive would be appreciated.
I will be reading the posts in this forum very carefully for more info and try to help out any of you who have questions or need updates from the Whiteshell.
Thanks everyone and I hope to see you on the water, James R.

James - welcome along ...
Don't worry about the casting - someone here can get you going in a day (or less).

What is it with this PIE thing? I know it is an inside joke, but I am out of the loop. If it means getting lessons from a seasoned pro I will bring as much as you want! Hehe...

Bring me raisin pie. Gotta have raisin pie. For an explanation do not talk to Caddisguy. He uses a rubber tape measure so you can't trust him to tell the real story. Come see me and I'll explain correctly.
