I'm just saying Hi with my first post. I'm new to the Manitoba fly fishing scene but I grew up in Nova Scotia so am accustomed to water. I came to fly fishing later in life, while at university in PEI, whith a friend who showed me the light. I haven't pick up my fly rod since I moved here in 97. So shame on me. I want to remedy that and came across this group... seemed like the logical place to start. So here I am, watch out fish!

I haven't pick up my fly rod since I moved here in 97. Awsome! A Hardy welcome aboard My wife's late father moved here from NL in the 80's and never fly rodded again and I have met quite a few folks who have moved from our 3 coasts (Atlantic, Pacific and Great Lakes ) Who haven't fly rodded here.

Trout are closest to my heart but my favourite flies are the fancy salmon flies, but hairwings. I still have some of my grandfather's salmon flies from the 50's, not in very good shape however. I tend to improvise on patterns, and am a veterinarian so regard every animal as a potential source of tying material (shaved or found on the bottom of a bird cage, of course.

... regard every animal as a potential source of tying material ... ;D .... hmmmms, yeah. We just lost our Chinchilla last Saturday ... 6 yrs old ..... when he shed I'd save his fur - nice grey-blue dubbing. But ... even though he was just another rodent - I just couldn't bring myself to shave the little guy or cure his tail ........ Cats however .........

Glad to have ya hanging out... Ever have any experience with Labrador retriever hair? We've got a chocolate one that sheds like crazy. In a couple weeks, he donates enough to keep us all in brown stone fly dubbing for a few seasons. But I have to admit that I've never tried it... Looking forward to some reports on exotic tying materials - I won't tell anybody where it's coming from!!!
