Several years ago, a friend and I spent alot of time fishing Grassmere Creek where it empties into the Red. We were amazed at the variety of species we caught in that spot. Drums, Goldeye, Bass, Pike, Walleye and Carp (To mention a few). It seems that they love to come to the flowing waters out of the creek when the water is high. Best times to go were in the spring when the water was high. It would probably be good this time of the year as the water is nice and high. Unfortunately, they closed off the North side due to a new apartment complex on the creek. However, the South side is a popular fishing spot and the residents that live on that side are very nice to fisherman on the creek.
To give you an idea of what it is like, the water flows over a man-made wall that creates a nice set of falls. On one occasion, we saw schools of suckers fighting their way up the creek.
Check it out for some "close to home" action... You can get to Grassmere by driving North on Main Street, past the Perimeter and into Middle Church. Do not pass over the Grassmere bridge, instead turn right, before the bridge and follow the road to the creek.

Is fishing allowed here? I drove here today and last a local, but she said that fishing is not allowed. I did notice her property was right by the creek, so I cannot say for certain that she was being honest.
It does look like a nice spot, and there are some rocks to sit/stand on for us shore fishermen. There's even a waste basket placed conveniently nearby.

Dennis,
I have fished there a ton of times and never had a problem. I guess it depends who you talk to, but this spot can produce some fantastic fish. As I mentioned above, the apartment complex side is no longer allowed to be fished from. Before the complex was built, the oposite shore was a fisherman's dream spot because no one bothered you and it had a very scenic setting. As with most things, it was a shame to see them rip up the opposite side when they build the apartment, how does that saying go? "Tear down paradise and put up a parking lot"...

Hi James,
Where the heck do you park there? There is that road that leads right to it, but it says "no parking" and "no trespassing". Do you need to park further up the road and walk? I am unfamiliar with Middle Church and their regulations. I cannot see fishing there being a cause for concern, but there's always the risk that some bad apples will show up and ruin it for us all.
I checked out Grassmere Creek by McPhillips, but it is very shallow there. I can only image how shallow it gets when we haven't had such a wet season.
I have a bad case of minnow fever, and the only prescription is more fishing. javascript:add("%20:D")
Cheers, Dennis
(PS. Thanks for the warm welcome)

I have been fishing there off and on this spring. Close to my home. No one has said anything negative to me, and I have seen others fishing there as well. I don't believe the no parking and no trespassing signs are valid, as they are merely on metal posts pile driven into the ground. If you check them out, they are quite flimsy.
I try and respect others space, so I park down the street a bit and walk down. I stay on the rocks and below the mowed part as much as possible, and I usually clean up any fishing related garbage I come across. Others in the neighbourhood walking dogs have been down there as well, and have been friendly with me.
