Went down to Windy Gates for the hawk watch but that river winding through that valley had me really wondering about the fishing in there.
Anyone been, fished it etc?

In the same general area on your MB highway map, find the town of Kaleida. The road to Kaleida goes by the town and continues to the Pembina River. There's a couple big culverts that carry the river underneath the road and form a rapid at their base. I've had good luck there for goldeye in June during high water years. I've also had some success with carp in the flooded regions at that spot. Catfish, sucker, rock bass, and walleye are also possibilities.
In July, I've found pretty good fishing for goldeye in the first deep section about 1 km downstream from the culverts.
I've also had a bit of luck for goldeye in September where Highway 201 crosses the Pembina.
There are a few other sections of river that I've tried, but without much success. I think the fish are in there... it's just a question of finding the productive sections.
P.S. Rob... The weather icons are a nice touch.

Thanks!
I was thinking of you when i drove through Winkler/Morden.
I might have to fish that river in May (does it ever clear up?)
The water by 201(where the Hawk watch takes place) looked very fishy and despite the birds over head i could only wonder about the fishing
