I'm headed on a road trip to Muskoka country in a few weeks and I'll be taking the TransCan all the way down (Hwy #1/#17). Any recommendations for rivers flowing in Superior or Huron that would be worth a stop with a fly rod? I think the Steelheads are still in the lakes at this time of year but any other trout species will do.

Those waters are very flow dependent and may only have fish (Brookies) in the upper reaches.
Also many of the North Shore rivers offer absolutely no place to park/pull over. Many times I have traveled that route but unless you have some serious maps/gps and an very understanding family you will be just admiring the scenery.
But if you have Rainbow falls (Sand River) on your route then that may fit your bill either walk up from the bridge or down from the park. There is also a road west of the park that can take you up a bit.
If you are camping stay at Obatanga PP the fishing can be awesome at the culvert (you drive over it to the camp sites)
If you want more about fishing this area let me know I have a 'bit' of experience.
Will you be in or near Minden?

Found it. Sounds good. About one day's worth of driving away (10-11 hrs?). We'll be camping along the way, likely making a 2, maybe 3 day journey. We're headed 40km straight North of Minden to Livingstone Lake. Lake trout (deep they are in that one!) and smallmouth. Following the portage trail down to Bear Lake, there's speckled trout and crappie. Tough catching fish there.
How about a couple fly patterns for the brookies?
Thanks for the info.

This Fly done this way and with elk hair wing and other colours of dubbing has been berry berry good to me. Originally supposed to be a blue gill fly.
