Made it out to the river today. What a blast! The newbie I had out caught his first, second and third fish on the fly. He had a riot. In total 28 fish were landed. Six were fouled the others were legit. One Channel Cat at 35" the rest were Drum, the largest was 22". Flies used were the Easter Egg Bugger, Super Clouser, and assorted clouser minnows. Barry's fish all came on the DDH Leech.

There were many gear fishers on the north side of the spillway last night (Tuesday). Late in the evening (between 8:30 and 9:00) more started showing up. When I left at 9:30, there were probably 20 or so people there. Totals; one drum landed, no other nibbles

Robert when the drum are going there is no telling what size you are going to catch. My best came from the Red 2 years ago measuring 28" and believe it or not I had one on that dwarfed the 28 incher. The best thing was the 2 guys I was guiding had fishing beyond thier wildest dreams. The one with the spinning rod was spooled on every fish. He burnt out his stradic reel. The fly guy caught so many Drum he quit fishing because his arms were sore. That was a day and a half.

The Cat was on the main river. Caught him on a dace pattern, Clouser style. He hit not 10 ft from shore. All the Drum were caught in the floodway. By the way Carp were all over the place going nuts. Got the newbie really excited to see all those fish moving. Yes Cane we got to get out fishing. Maybe we can get some other guys at the same time and really show the bait guys how to fish. What say you Sir Carpalot ?

9-11 am this morning- the water level is down quite a bit- the pellicans have a hump to stand on at the floodway/river junction- looks like a lot of drum have moved in- had 9-10 up to 25" on brown crawdad and peacock crystal chenille dragonfly. 4 Carp from about 24" to a measured 29" all fair hooked and a bunch of pulled off foul hooked hookups- quit when the biblical downpour started:))))

well the term "lurkers" in internet parlance is somewhat misunderstood.
Basically those who read a site but don't register or contibute either cause they feel they have nothing to add, are too proud to admit it or are just the non sharing type.
If you have a lurker on your front lawn it is a bad thing but, for the most part, internet lurking is not.
Though the ones who swear they hate the site owner and talk $#!t about him (btw it gets back to him) but read the site regularly are a mystery to me oh well God bless em anyways

9-Noon today- water is down some more- another bunch of Drum again to 25 " - fished my V sink line and an Allys Shrimp ( Scottish salmon fly -lol) for a go at the Drum( who knew the Manitoba record is around 36-38" yike!!) broken off in heavy current and rocks right at the spillway by a brute of a something and hook pulled on a big carp right at shore( Kim will attest to the hissy fit I had:))))))))- Carp are still there but not showing/splashing as much this morning.

Great to see all you guys tonight. Had a blast. Thanks for the netting help Cane. That was my best fish at the floodway so far. Thank you guys again for all the advice and guidance. My dad John and buddy Jason had a hoot too. Fabulous evening.

Yes it was nice to see the flyfishers not only outfish the hardware guys, but to outnumber them too! (at least for a while).
An evening of fishing there and seeing all the fish being caught and breaking the surface gives you an appreciation for how great that fishery is.

Great Evening indeed Used a rendition of Cane's esCarpgot - #6 nymph, white marabou tail, brown crystal chenille and orange biots for antennae - worked for a nice Drum and 3 goldeye. That was the first 1/2 hr - 45 minutes ... then nothing else .... oh well - 2 more for the flyrod. And the great (but quiet) company. Aside of the rock splashing (granite I believe, maybe limestone - didn't get a good look) from the gearchucker - did anyone see them land anything ? you DID leave them alone - didn't you Kim

All that I saw from the guys in the lawnchairs to the right of us was one bullhead and a couple of fish across the river from us (not sure what).

Nice one Dan! Biggest Drum i've seen . I was'nt counting, but I'm pretty sure Dan outfished everyone there last night.

I'd like to fish again. Tuesday sounds good right now - I'll post this week to confirm. Had alot of success with Flyguy Friday night with a brown #6 or #8 leetch pattern - basically had the north side to ourselves. Lots of goldeye and drum with the leetch, one sauger (#10 white streamer), one decent carp (#6 purple over chartreuse streamer).

5:30 am to 1:30 pm- Spent the day with Kim on the floodway- Carp bite was slow to non existant- gave up counting Goldeye/ and Drum- tangled with some "into the backing through the bushes down the river" Cats:)))) My fish were taken swinging Hairwing Salmon flies and a Yellow or Orange Allys Shrimp across and out of current seams on a deep sunk line Splendid day in great company- despite the fact my partner had to go and mistakenly use the LADIES washroom at the resteraunt - lol- guess we were tired at that point:))))))

Hey Tuesday sounds good to me. The Foodway is really droping now. It may be time to start fishing at the reefs in front of the locks if we can get to them. Have had good Catfish action there when it is wadeable. See you guys out there Tuesday night.
